Dana White on Nate Diaz Fight Withdrawal: Twitter isn’t an ‘Official Statement’

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz is once again causing a stir in the fight community.

Monday night, the outspoken Stockton, California native sent out a tweet that only a Diaz brother could come up with:

“@ufc Cant make it november 30th ive gotta high school reuinion i have to tend too...,” he wrote.

Not surprisingly, it appears that UFC President Dana White was not amused, according to comments he made at the UFC 168 “World Tour” in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday.

"I was shocked! Diaz brothers doing something crazy? Shocked! I don't know. I heard about it yesterday, someone told me about it. I haven't talked to Joe, or Nate or anybody so I don't know. I don't even know if it's true,” White said.

“I don't even know if Nate did this -- did he talk to Joe Silva? If he really Tweeted that he's going to his high school reunion, and didn't call Joe and those guys … [shrugs]. I don't take Twitter for news, it's not an official statement."

Diaz is booked for a rubber match with another former title challenger in Gray Maynard at The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 Finale on November 30.

The first match, technically an exhibition bout on TUF 5 in mid-2007, saw Diaz submit “The Bully” with a guillotine choke early in the second round.

In their second encounter at UFC Fight Night 20 in January 2010, Maynard won a hotly-contested split decision.

As it turns out, Diaz doesn’t feel like he has a score to settle with the former Michigan State University wrestler.

Nevertheless, for the time being, it doesn’t seem like the UFC’s head honcho is concerned with the situation.
