Former UFC welterweight title challenger Josh Koscheck may return from a 15-month layoff from the Octagon at UFC 184 in February.
MMA Junkie reported Friday night that the Dethrone Base Camp founder is targeted to come back against surging 170-pound prospect Neil Magny at the February 28 pay-per-view.
One of the fighters has already verbally agreed to the matchup, according to the report.
Koscheck hasn’t been the same since a failed championship bid against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 124 in December 2010.
Since the tough decision loss, where his right orbital bone was shattered, Koscheck is just 2-3 inside the cage – currently in the midst of a 3-fight losing streak.
Further cause for concern is that Koscheck’s past two losses were first-round knockouts at the hands of Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
Meanwhile, Magny has had a career year in 2014, tying the modern-day UFC record for most wins in one calendar year (five).
He faces a considerable step up in competition against Koscheck, which would easily be the biggest win of his 16-fight career.
UFC 184 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and is headlined by a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.
