UFC featherweight prospect Conor McGregor improved his winning streak to 10 after taking out Max Holloway at UFC Fight Night 26 last week and he seems eager at getting a shot at a top-tier opponent next.
Early Thursday morning, the outspoken Irish brawler posted a tweeted calling out just about every relevant name at 145 pounds:
“Aldo-Safe. Mendes-135er. Lamas-Nobody cares. Cub-OLD. TKZ-Open. Edgar-135er. Siver-OLD. Poirier-PeaHead. Guida-Boring. Lentz-Boring. Koch-?,” he wrote.
Some of his remarks are defensible, featherweight champ Jose Aldo has just two finishes in five UFC fights, Frankie Edgar could certainly make the cut to bantamweight if he felt like it and both Clay Guida and Nik Lentz have faced heavy criticism for their wrestle-heavy style.
However, Cub Swanson is just 29 years old and whatever it means when he calls Dustin Poirier a “PeaHead” is certainly up in the air.
The only fighter to respond thus far is former title challenger Chad “Money” Mendes, simply stating “Who??” when a fan asked what he thought about McGregor’s callout.
McGregor’s brash personality and highlight-reel knockouts, his win over Holloway was his first win to go to a decision, has put the fans and the featherweight division on notice.
While that victory was less than a week ago, McGregor is already linked to a matchup with former Ultimate Fighter winner Diego Brandao, but his harsh words against the top featherweights in the world may make the UFC think twice before talking McGregor vs. Brandao.
