Following Mike Easton Win, Brad Pickett Wants Michael McDonald Next

After a clutch win over fellow top 10 bantamweight Mike Easton at UFC on FUEL 9, Brad Pickett wants to stand toe-to-toe with the most recent 135-pound title contender: Michael McDonald.

Speaking with FUEL TV right after the win, “One Punch” explained that he’d like a top five bantamweight fighter next (transcription via MMA Mania).

"The last fight everyone said I was one dimensional. This time, I looked to change and mix things up. I think it went well for me tonight. I actually would like to fight someone ranked above me for once,” Pickett said.

“I always get people below me. Maybe somebody like Michael McDonald would be a good fight. Anyone above me, give me somebody above me."

Pickett, currently placed at number five in the UFC’s official bantamweight rankings, has now won three of his past four fights and his only setback was a close split decision loss to Eddie Wineland at UFC 155 in December.

After winning eight in a row, “Mayday” came up short in a title bid against interim champion Renan Barao at UFC on FUEL 7 in February.

Even with a win against McDonald, Pickett would be hard-pressed to get a title shot anytime soon as Barao next defends his belt against Wineland at UFC 161 in June.

Pickett has also already lost to Barao back at UFC 138 in Nov. 2011, getting submitted with a rear-naked choke towards the end of the first round.

Nevertheless, his entertaining style will always keep the Englishman close to the title conversation as far as the fans are concerned.

Does Pickett vs. MacDonald sound like a worthwhile fight for UFC matchmaker Joe Silva to book?
