Following Suspension Reversal, Cung Le Asks for Release from UFC Contract

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le was suspended for one year by the UFC for elevated levels of human growth hormone (HGH) in October, only to admit they made a mistake three weeks later.

Six weeks later, the 42-year-old striker told MMA Junkie’s Josh Gross, on his Gross Point Blank podcast, that the whole ordeal has soured him on the UFC and he wants out, per MMA Junkie.

“I asked (my manager) Gary (Ibarra) to ask the UFC to release me for … what they’ve done to me,” Le said. “I really don’t want to be a part of a promotion that doesn’t (give) their fighters the benefit of the doubt.”

“I got a bad taste in my mouth with the UFC, and I worked extremely hard and I sacrificed a lot for them, and there’s also a lot of perks to being a part of the UFC, but it’s not worth what they did.”

Le showed up in easily the best shape of his career at UFC Fight Night 48 in August, which took place in his native Macau, SAR, China, for his headlining bout against Michael Bisping.

However, Bisping, 35, was the far quicker and more versatile striker in a bout that saw mere seconds of the action take place on the ground.

“The Count” finished off Le in the fourth round after well-placed knee to the jaw and subsequent punches. Le was a bloody and bruised mess after the one-sided affair.

Le is just 3-3 in his past six contests after starting his career 6-0, only stepping inside the Octagon four times since November 2011.

UFC officials told MMA Junkie that Le is still on their roster as of Wednesday night, while Le said on the podcast he hasn’t ruled out retirement yet.
