Frank Mir Accepts ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira’s Challenge for a Third Fight

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is in the biggest slump of his career, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t anxious to get back inside the Octagon.

Mir, who is in the midst of a four-fight losing streak, told Brazilian media outlet Globo.com that he’d  be happy to take Antonio Rogerio Nogueira up on his offer for a trilogy fight – even though Mir won their first two encounters decisively (translation per Bloody Elbow).

“I have no problem accepting this bout but the UFC would have to agree. Some people could say that I already won twice and I don't need to risk having a loss but won't deny this fight.”

“I know that he would like to make his last appearance in Brazil and not in the USA but it's fine by me. I have fans in Brazil, it wouldn't be a totally hostile territory,” Mir added.

Mir and Nog first met at UFC 92 in December 2008, where the American submission specialist between the first competitor to knock the PRIDE legend out cold.

At their rematch at UFC 140 in December 2011, “Minotauro” had Mir on shaking legs following a solid right had.

However, Mir defended a guillotine attempt and grabbed a kimura out of a scramble, rolling back on top and snapping the decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt’s arm with the hold.

Mir was awarded “Submission of the Night” honors and later “Submission of the Year” for the stunning comeback finish – the first time Nogueira had been submitted in 42 professional fights.

Since then, Mir has lost four fights in a row and Nogueira has compiled a 1-2 record.

Given the current set of circumstances, does Mir vs. Nogueira III make sense sometime early next year?
