Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson Headlines UFC Fight Night 57 in November

The next UFC lightweight title challenger could easily be decided at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

Former UFC 155-pound champ Frankie Edgar will square off with ex-WEC featherweight title challenger Cub Swanson in a pivotal 145-pound matchup on November 22.

The UFC announced the bout on their official Twitter page last night:

After suffering three of his four career losses between February 2012 and February 2013, “The Answer” has since rebounded with dominant victories over Charles Oliveira and BJ Penn.

Edgar, a gritty wrestler with precise boxing, effectively retired Penn after a 14-minute mauling of the former two-division champ at The Ultimate Fighter Season 19 Finale.

At the July contest, the New Jersey native became the first fighter to finish Penn with strikes since September 2006.

Meanwhile, Swanson is riding a solid six-fight win streak (four knockouts) since scoring a TKO over George Roop at UFC on FOX 2 in January 2012.

He has taken home four post-fight bonuses during that 18-month time frame: two “Knockout of the Night” awards, as well as two “Fight of the Night” accolades.

The Greg Jackson’s MMA fighter suffered an embarrassing TKO loss to then WEC featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo back in June 2009, getting put out cold with a highlight-reel worthy double flying knee in just seven seconds.

In fairness, Swanson has looked like a greatly improved fighter since joining the UFC ranks in November 2011 (even though he lost his debut fight against Ricardo Lamas).
