Former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard is 2-0 since dropping down to 170 pounds and he wants to prove he’s a true contender with a scrap against Matt Brown.
Late Tuesday night, “Lightning” sent a tweet at UFC President Dana White requesting a matchup with Brown.
“@danawhite people want to see Hector Lombard vs Matt brown what about you?? @ufc,” Lombard wrote.
Boasting a rarely-seen 25-fight unbeaten streak between February 2007 and November 2011, the former Olympic judoka went just 1-2 in his first three fights with the UFC.
However, since dropping to welterweight he has scored back-to-back lopsided beat downs over Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields.
Meanwhile, Brown is fresh off of what many are calling a career-defining performance, scoring a spectacular come-from-behind TKO against Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40 last week.
The win marked seven in a row for “The Immortal,” with six of those victories coming via knockout.
According to the UFC’s official rankings, Brown is the no. 6 welterweight in the world, while Lombard is right behind him at no. 7.
While the matchup makes sense from a ranking standpoint, many pundits believe Brown is in line for either a title shot or title eliminator bout – and Lombard would not fit the criteria for either of those situations.
Should UFC matchmaker Joe Silva pair Brown with Lombard next or are there several other intriguing opponents for him elsewhere?
