Looks like the UFC has taken a hard stance on lightweight Jason High putting his hands on a referee at UFC Fight Night 42, as he has been let go by the organization as of Tuesday.
UFC President Dana White addressed the situation on UFC.com’s weekly interview, The Download.
"What I did find out is that I guess that Jason High kid got up and pushed a referee - he's cut," White said in disgust. "I'm going to cut him.”
“I look at that the way (Paul) Daley put his hands on his opponent after a fight was over. You don't ever, ever f****** touch a referee, ever. You're done here. He's been apologizing on Twitter, but he's done."
In case you missed it, here’s what High said about the incident on Twitter:
High fought a competitive bout with top contender Rafael dos Anjos at Saturday’s event, but ultimately got finished with punches in the second round – though most pundits agreed with “The Kansas City Bandit” in that the stoppage was premature.
Unfortunately, High let his emotions get the best of him and shoved the third man in the Octagon – Kevin Mulhall – and that ended up costing him his job.
After going 3-0 under the Strikeforce banner, High went 2-2 for the UFC, with his loss to dos Anjos being his first bout at 155 pounds after competing as a welterweight for 22 professional fights.
While Bellator has already stated they won’t pursue adding High to their roster, World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo has said he’s “interested” in working out a deal with the 32-year-old when speaking with MMA Fighting.
