Johny Hendricks: I Drop 45 Pounds in 8 Weeks to Make the Welterweight Limit

Upcoming welterweight title challenger Johny Hendricks gets his shot at dominant champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 167 next Saturday and he feels he has what it takes to pull off the upset.

Fans know “Bigg Rigg” is one of the biggest, hardest hitting 170 pounders out there, but some may be surprised to hear how heavy he walks around at.

“A6: I follow @TheDolceDiet for every training camp. Mostly lean protein & whole foods. I lose 45 + lbs in 8 weeks #LiveWithFire,” Hendricks wrote during a question and answer session on Twitter, sponsored by Reebok.

It seems almost impossible to fathom that a man who naturally weighs 215 pounds could possibly make the welterweight limit, but nutrition guru Mike Dolce seems to make a living by making the impossible a reality.

The hulking power puncher, who was also a four-time All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University, earned his shot at championship gold by rattling off six straight victories between March 2011 and March 2013.

During that two-year span, he knocked out top contenders Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann, and earned hard fought decisions over former title challenger Josh Koscheck and Carlos Condit.

Meanwhile, his French-Canadian adversary, the number 2 fighter in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings, enters the title tilt on an 11-fight win streak, looking to make title defense number nine.

Will Hendricks’ famed left hand to be enough to steal the belt away from St-Pierre’s grasp or will the Tristar gym standout do what he does best: find a way to win?
