Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira Scratched from Pay-Per-View Event for a Second Time

Glover Teixeira is once again going to have to move his training schedule around to accommodate a title fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Just one day after the 205-pound championship bout was announced for UFC 170 on February 22, UFC President Dana White stated at a press conference for UFC 167 that Jones had pulled out of the bout.

White said he learned moments before the conference started that Jones would not be available for the event and declined to include any further details on the situation.

“Bones” vs. Teixeira was originally set to take place at UFC 169 on February 1, however, White told the media four days later that the bout had been announced prematurely and would be rescheduled for a later date.

Once again, the bout has been pushed back for undisclosed reasons, though White said the fight could headline an event in March.

Teixeira, the no. 2 light heavyweight according to the UFC’s official rankings, earned his title shot by winning five straight inside the Octagon, including decisive wins over Ryan Bader and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Meanwhile, Jones – the top ranked fighter in the UFC’s official pound-for-pound rankings – has won 10 bouts in a row, including a UFC record of six straight light heavyweight title defenses.

Jones had a brutal 25-minute battle with Alexander Gustafsson in a “Fight of the Year” candidate at UFC 165 in September, so the young champion could possibly be angling for some extra time off.

Outside of the Gustafsson bout, Jones has faced few challenges inside the Octagon.
