Jones vs. Gustafsson II, Barao vs. Dillashaw Rematch, Set for Fall PPV Events

A long-awaited light heavyweight title rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson is set for UFC 178 on September 27, while a part II has been inked between bantamweights TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao for UFC 177 on August 30.

UFC.com and Ariel Helwani, respectively, reported the pair of championship rematches on this week.

Jones vs. Gustafsson II will headline UFC 178, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. A venue has not yet been named for the pay-per-view event, but it will more than likely be either the MGM Grand Arena or the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

“Bones” and “The Mauler” first squared off at UFC 165 in September, where Gustafsson pushed the champ to the limit in a fashion no one else had been able to accomplish in the cage.

Despite winning the first two rounds decisively, Jones shined in the championship rounds and the judges awarded him a close, albeit controversial, decision victory.

Dillashaw vs. Barao at UFC 173 was a completely different story, as Dillashaw beat the Brazilian champ from pillar to post for the better part of five rounds before finishing the seemingly unstoppable titleholder with a head kick and subsequent punches in the final few moments of round five.

The Team Alpha Male fighter became the first member of the Sacramento-based fight camp to capture UFC gold, despite being an 8-to-1 underdog, while Barao tasted defeat for the first time in almost nine years and 33 fights.

“The Viper” will enjoy a hometown advantage in his first title defense, as UFC 177 is hosted at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

Jones vs. Gustafsson II was originally thought to be the main event of UFC 177, but has now officially been pushed back another month.
