UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was not amused by the fact that Team Alpha Male clowned his teammate, Renan Barao, on Instagram days after he got upset by T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 173.
Speaking on Brazilian radio show No Mundo da Luta, “Scarface” expressed his displeasure about the photo, which mocked Barao by having him signed up for a Muay Thai seminar with TAM striking coach Duane Ludwig, per MMA Fighting.
"By their logic, how many times would we have to sign Urijah Faber in an MMA seminar at Nova Uniao?" Aldo said about the photo. "It was lack of respect. We always defeat them, Faber always lost to us and we never did that. We always respected them.”
“… We never disrespected them. But it’s cool. Let’s be patient, we will meet again. I have a fight coming up with Chad (Mendes), and Barao, God willing, will fight Dillashaw again and we will get the payback."
Faber, the co-owner of the Sacramento, California TAM gym, boasts a 30-7 record overall, with all of his losses coming in only title matchups.
Three of those losses came to Nova Uniao team members: Aldo (once) and Barao (twice).
While Faber has not responded to Aldo’s callout, teammate Chad Mendes, who rematches the Brazilian at UFC 176 in August, appeared to take it personal.
Aldo handed Mendes his only professional loss at UFC 142 in January 2012, knocking him out with a knee at the tail end of the first round.
Mendes has rallied back into title contention by winning five straight bouts since the loss, four of which came by way of knockout.
