Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes Featherweight Title Rematch Set for UFC 176 on August 2

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will look to notch his seventh UFC title defense against an old foe at UFC 176 on August 2.

“Scarface” will rematch Chad “Money” Mendes at the summer pay-per-view, which takes place at the Staples Center in Sacramento, California. The LA Times first reported the news late Sunday night.

Since suffering a devastating knockout loss to Aldo at UFC 142 in January 2012, the only defeat of his career, Mendes has battled back to win five fights in a row (four knockouts).

On the other hand, Aldo has won three straight against hungry title challengers in Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung and Ricardo Lamas.

The Brazilian star has won an incredible 17 bouts in a row, only tasting defeat once in his career - his only lightweight contest back in November 2005.

According to the UFC’s official rankings, Mendes is the top ranked fighter at 145 pounds.

In the same company rankings, Aldo is the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter on the roster, behind only UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Tickets for UFC 176 go on sale on June 13.

Will Mendes show a new wrinkle to his game and solve the Aldo puzzle the second time around or will Aldo make short work of his American counterpart again?
