Despite suffering a gruesome, bloody toe location in his title fight with Chael Sonnen last month, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones wants to fight two more times in 2013, according to his manager Malki Kawa.
Kawa told Bleacher Report on Tuesday that “Bones,” who only fought twice in 2012 after fighting four times in 2011, would like to step into the Octagon two more times this year.
"I'll just tell you this, I wouldn't be surprised if Jon fights two more times this year. That's very aggressive and I know that's crazy, but it's something that he discussed with me and we talked about it,” Kawa said.
“I told Superman to relax a little bit, you're injured right now, but he's got an aggressive timeline in his head. Certain goals and accomplishments that he wants and we're looking to get that record."
With his TKO victory over Sonnen, Jones tied UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz’s light heavyweight record of five consecutive title defenses.
Jones, who is also the youngest title holder in company history, has beaten a murderer’s row of opponents in the last two years or so.
Since March 2011, Jones has taken out former UFC champions in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort.
While Jones has flirted with the idea of both heavyweight match ups and superfights, Kawa indicated Jones wants to be the sole record holder of the UFC’s 205-pound title defense record first.
"He'll get that next defense and once he breaks that record, after that all the speculation can happen … I think he really wants to fight Alexander Gustafsson next. Alexander called him out and I think Jon has said in numerous interviews that he would like to fight him next.”
Gustaffson is currently riding a six-fight win streak, including four stoppages. His most recent victory came over Rua at UFC on FOX 5 in December.
Will Jones again shock the world again by this time managing to come back immediately following what, at the time, seemed like a devastating injury?
