Mark Bocek: The UFC Prefers Pay-Per-View Buys Over Strict Drug Testing

Recently retired UFC lightweight Mark Bocek has been tearing into his former employer over what he considers a really poor drug testing policy.

On Monday’s edition of Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt dished on the subject.

“Let me put it this way, if I'm the UFC, maybe I don't want all of this WADA or VADA or voluntary testing. Because if you start doing all this type of testing, the results come out before the events do, right?” Bocek asked.

“Then you don't cash in on your pay-per-view (PPV) money. But, if you deal with this lax commission testing, the results come out after the pay-per-view, so it's a little more convenient. That's looking from the UFC perspective.”

Bocek fought 13 of his 18 professional mixed martial arts contests inside the Octagon, where he posted an 8-5 record.

The Canadian grappler struggled against the division’s best such as ex-champs Frankie Edgar and Benson Henderson, but excelled against lower and mid-tier competition.

Bocek last competed at The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale in April, winning a tough split decision over Mike De La Torre.

For the record, none of Bocek’s opponents ever failed a drug test for performance-enhancing drugs.

Does Bocek have a solid argument about why PEDs are still a serious problem in the UFC or is he just angry he was never able to establish himself as an elite fighter?
