Matt Brown Withdraws from UFC on FOX 9 Bout with Carlos Condit

A bout that had “Fight of the Night” written all over it has been unceremoniously removed from next week’s UFC on FOX 9 card.

A welterweight scrap between Matt Brown and Carlos Condit has been cancelled at the last minute due to an undisclosed injury to Brown.

Popular Twitter personality Front Row Brian first tweeted the news on Friday night, while Bleacher Report confirmed the news with sources close to Brown on Saturday afternoon.

Fans eagerly anticipated the 170-pound showdown for months since both competitors are known for their violent, innovative striking, as well as their ability to absorb damage on top of that.

After losing back-to-back fights to champ Georges St-Pierre and top contender Johny Hendricks, Condit got back to his winning ways by avenging an April 2009 loss to Martin Kampmann.

The bout took place UFC Fight Night 27 in August and "The Natural Born Killer' won by round 4 TKO.

Meanwhile, Brown has been one of the most pleasant surprises in the UFC’s welterweight division in recent memory, boasting a six-fight win streak (five via knockout) dating back to February 2012.

According to the UFC’s official rankings, Condit is the no. 2 welterweight in the world, while Brown is the no. 9 170-pound competitor on the same list.

Condit is yet to be formally removed from the card and rumor has it former Bellator middleweight titleholder Hector Lombard may fill in on short notice, but nothing has been confirmed on the matter as of Saturday afternoon.
