Michael Bisping vs. Tim Kennedy Targeted for TUF Nations Finale in April

After months of back-and-forth trash talk, the UFC looks like they are finally going to book a pivotal middleweight matchup between Michael Bisping and Tim Kennedy for the spring.

FOX Sports reported the news on Sunday, indicating that the bout is being targeted for The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Team Canada vs. Team Australia Finale on April 16 in Canada.

Kennedy, a two-time Strikeforce title challenger, had Bisping on his personal short list of future opponents after he scored a highlight-reel worthy knockout over Rafael Natal at UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 in November – his third victory in a row.

The Greg Jackson’s MMA product has also won nine of his past 11 bouts and hasn’t lost a non-title bout since December 2007.

Meanwhile, Bisping has won six of his past eight matchups - though is just 2-2 in his past four fights, losing title eliminator bouts to top contenders Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort.

“The Count” most recently competed at UFC 159 in April, defeating Alan Belcher via unanimous decision.

However, the English striker has been on the sidelines due to an injured right eye which required two surgeries.

Bisping told BT Sport’s Beyond the Octagon that due to the circumstances, the UFC wants him to undergo additional medical testing before a bout agreement is signed.

"I was cleared to fight by my doctor. My doctor wrote a letter to the UFC, clearing me 100%. The UFC very kindly offered me a fight against Tim Kennedy,” Bisping said.

“No bout agreements are signed as yet, but unfortunately for me the UFC want to do some more testing to cover their side of things. They don't want anything to go wrong with my eye."

According to the UFC’s official rankings, Bisping is the no. 5 middleweight in the world, while Kennedy cracks the list at no. 9.
