Miesha Tate: Rousey vs. Carano is ‘Kind of a Joke’ Since Fight is Based on Looks

Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Miesha Tate continues to angle a for a matchup with Gina Carano, noting that giving her a title shot after a nearly five-year hiatus would be “kind of a joke.

“Cupcake” expressed her displeasure with the possible title tilt in an appearance on MMA Junkie Radio.

“I really feel that it’s just kind of a joke,” Tate said. “It really is.”

“Gina was a great fighter, and she’s a beautiful women. Ronda is a great fighter, and she’s an attractive girl. But to say that Gina should be able to come in after five years of nothing and take on arguably the best female fighter ever? Come on.”

“Women’s MMA has been working to legitimize ourselves for so long, and we finally broke the ice, we’re finally in the UFC, and we’re getting some credibility. Don’t take that away by putting a fight together that is based entirely on looks and has little to nothing to do with skill set.”

Tate is just 2-3 in her past five fights, though two of those losses came against champion Ronda Rousey.

While there’s no such thing as moral victories in combat sports, Tate was the only fighter to take the “Rowdy” one beyond the first round at UFC 168 in December.

Despite proving to be a game opponent, she ended up tapping to Rousey’s signature armbar in the third round.

Meanwhile, Carano hasn’t fought since suffering the only defeat of her career against Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in August 2009.

The 32-year-old women’s MMA pioneer has opted for a career on the silver screen in recent years, but has recently expressed a serious interest in returning to the cage.

Would Rousey vs. Carano make sense before the end of the year, or would Tate vs. Carano be a far more logical option if “Conviction” makes her Octagon debut?
