Pablo Popovitch: Thiago Silva Was Drunk or High When he Pulled a Gun on Me

World-renowned Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Pablo Popovitch has released a public statement after now ex-UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva pulled a gun on him during a out of control domestic dispute on Thursday evening in Oakland Park, Florida.

"During our evening class, at around 7:45pm, Thiago Silva was outside sitting in his car honking the horn non-stop. Thaysa went outside to talk to Thiago to understand what was happening and saw a gun," Popovitch wrote on Facebook.

"After that, I went to see what was happening and also saw that he had a gun. He seemed to be under the influence of some type of drug whether alcohol or drugs. My staff notified the police at that time, and soon after the police arrived. He took off and the police went after him."

According to various media reports, Silva was enraged over the fact that Popovitch has been dating his wife, the aforementioned Thaysa.

However, Popovitch also clarified that Thaysa and Thiago have been separated since December 2012 and he wished him the best in getting past this situation.

After Silva left the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy, he locked himself in his home and had a standoff with a SWAT team before he finally surrendered.

Silva remains in custody without bail on two charges of aggravated assault with a weapon, one count of resisting an officer without violence and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon from an unrelated earlier incident.

Shortly after the incident, UFC President Dana White told TMZ that Silva would “never fight in the UFC again” and terminated his contract immediately.

Silva was scheduled to fight Ovince St-Preux at UFC 171 next month, but given the circumstances has been replaced by Nikita Krylov.
