Rashad Evans: Ilir Latifi Has ‘Nothing to Lose’ and Could ‘Shock Everybody’

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans doesn’t think the fans should count out Ilir Latifi for his UFC on FUEL 9 main event bout against Gegard Mousasi this evening.

Mousasi was originally set to face top contender Alexander Gustafsson, a training partner of Latifi, but that bout was scrapped when the Swedish MMA Federation would not clear “The Mauler” due to a cut he suffered in training.

Latifi was the only man willing to step up the on short notice, and although he has a tough task ahead of him in a former DREAM and Strikeforce champ, Evans isn’t ruling out a major upset (via MMA Mania).

"He trained here for three months and he's a rough Greco guy. He has great transitions, can go from the ground to the stand-up easily. He has a lot of power and he's really strong. He's very strong … If he's in shape, Mousasi will have his hands full.”

Evans believes that Latifi’s power and wrestling background could give “The Dreamcatcher” problems, as he his wrestling has always been the weakest part of his game.

“When you watch Mousasi, in the fight's he's won, he's been the guy who can take people down and control the pace of the fight. At the same time, he has trouble against people who push the pace and can take him down."

Additionally, being an unheard of 8-to-1 underdog (according to BestFightOdds.com), “Suga” points out that the Swede has nothing to lose in front of his Stockholm home crowd.

"This guy is fighting in his hometown and he's got nothing to lose. He's got a very dangerous opponent in front of him and he's got nothing to lose. This one could be a big surprise."

Will Latifi be able to make this a good scrap or will Mousasi prove the oddsmakers right one more time by making this a short night for “The Sledgehammer?”
