Report: Anderson Silva Wants Chris Weidman Rematch in 2013

Looks look former long-time UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva spoke prematurely when he said he didn’t want to fight new titleholder Chris Weidman a second time.

According to a report by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, sources close to Silva said Silva wants to avenge his loss to “The All-American” as soon as possible.

Silva is so fired up, he’d like to see a rematch before the year’s end, the report says.

Immediately after he was knockout out cold by Weidman in the second round of their UFC 162 headlining bout, Silva told color commentator Joe Rogan that he wasn’t interested in a second match up with his Long Island counterpart.

As a matter of fact, the legendary Brazilian fighter said he wasn’t interested in fighting for the title again, period, though he still planned to compete in the Octagon again.

After the stunning victory, Weidman has made it clear on several occasions that he would like to fight “The Spider” at least one more time.

While Weidman, who improved his MMA record to a perfect 10-0 with the win, at first, said he’d like the match up to take place in February, he later said he would be comfortable taking the fight in December.

UFC President Dana White was the first one to suggest Weidman vs. Silva II take place at the annual pay-per-view card held during Super Bowl Weekend, but has since stated he doesn’t want the “biggest fight of all time” to be overshadowed by another sporting event.

The loss was a devastating one for Silva, as it broke a 17-fight win streak, 10 of which were UFC middleweight title defenses.

It was also the first time he had been knocked out in 38 professional fights.

Will Silva prove that the first fight was a fluke or will Weidman show that he's the real deal with another decisive victory over one of the best fighters in history?
