The only true superfight available for women’s MMA right now took a serious hit on Tuesday, according to a report by MMA Weekly.

The popular MMA news website spoke with members of Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos’ camp about a possible cut to 135-pounds in order to face off with current Strikeforce bantamweight women’s champion Ronda Rousey.

However, the camp members indicated that Cyborg’s doctors, including a cardiologist, strongly recommended against the drastic weight cut based on her current physical health. According to the camp, Santos was even told the cut could prevent her from having children later in her life, a risk she is not willing to take.

Santos is said to walk around at roughly 160 pounds and has never fought below the featherweight limit, 145 pounds, in her 12-fight professional career.

Both Rousey and Santos have openly called each other out in recent months, but neither fighter seems willing to budge from their respective weight class. It looks as though Santos will get the short end of the stick, as MMA Weekly also reports that the UFC will look to focus on the women’s bantamweight division once Strikeforce folds in January.

Should that prove to be true, it does not look like Santos will have a home under the Zuffa banner once the new year hits.

The former Strikeforce women’s featherweight title holder has not fought since December of last year, when she defeated Hiroko Yamanaka in just 16 seconds via TKO.

However, the decision was overturned to a no contest after the dominant champion tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol.  The California State Athletic Commission suspended Santos for one year as a result, denying an appeal attempt in April

Santos has dealt with accusations of steroid use throughout her career, but never failed a drug test until 2011.
