Report: Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva to headline UFC Fight Night Event in December
Two of the biggest, hardest hitting fighters on the UFC roster are set to trade some leather before the year’s end.
Pride veteran Mark Hunt is set to go toe-to-toe with former UFC title challenger Antonio Silva at an unnamed UFC Fight Night event set to take place in Australia on December 21, with the city and venue still to be determined as well.
MMA Fighting was the first media outlet to report the news on Tuesday evening.
Hunt, affectionately referred to by his fans as “The Super Samoan,” entered his May matchup with ex-heavyweight jump Junior dos Santos on a four fight win streak, but JDS managed to score a knockout victory late in the third round.
The 39-year-old then spent several weeks in the hospital being treated for a nasty staff infection on his knee. Finally, it appears Hunt is healthy again and ready to resume training.
His upcoming opponent, “Bigfoot,” earned a second shot at heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez after consecutive knockouts over top contenders Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem.
Silva, who headlined the UFC 160 card against Velasquez, the same card Hunt fought dos Santos, once again lost to the fast-paced wrestler by first round TKO.
The massive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt is just 2-3 in his past five bouts, and although two of those losses were to Velasquez, has also faltered against top-tier talent in Fabricio Werdum and Daniel Cormier in recent memory.
Which hard-hitting heavyweight will be able to touch their opponents chin first in this pivotal big man matchup?
