Retired 54-fight veteran Chris Lytle would return to the cage for a scrap or two under the right circumstances.

In an appearance on BJPenn.com Radio, “Lights Out” said that he would consider making a comeback fight or two in a situation where a fighter had to pull out of a scheduled bout on very short notice.

“I can’t say it’s always closed. I’ve made this comment to them before, I said, ‘hey man, I’m not willing to put in eight weeks of training but if you called me and said, hey, I have this possible fight Chris. Somebody backed out and we need you in a week. We need you in five days, we need you here.’ I could take it,” he explained.

"There’s a couple guys I do want to fight on short notice because I wouldn’t have to spend all that time away from my family and, like I said, I’m still training some, I still feel like I’m in good shape right now. And as veteran I know how to condition myself to where I could last three rounds.”

Lytle retired after a submission win over former welterweight title challenger Dan Hardy in August 2011. The victory earned him both “Submission of the Night” and “Fight of the Night” honors.

The 38-year-old, who had an unsuccessful run for Indiana State Senate seat in 2012, finished his career with an impressive 10 “Fight Night” bonuses.

The fan favorite has been involved with wars inside the cage with the likes of Nick Diaz, Robbie Lawler, Pat Healy, Matt Brown and Matt Serra.

Regardless, Lytle said he is enjoying being able to spend time with his family and would not be willing to return to the cage full-time under any circumstances.

Given how the injury bug has been a huge factor in the UFC in the past year, don’t be surprised if Lytle returns for a one-shot deal before the end of 2013.
