Two hulking middleweights coming off of disappointing losses will look to rebound at the UFC on FX 6 card set for Dec. 14 in Sydney, Australia.
UFC President Dana White tweeted the news on Friday: “FX 6 Australia Friday Dec 14 Middleweight Bout Rousimar Palhares VS Hector Lombard”.
After a 25-fight unbeaten streak between February 2007 and November 2011, Lombard make a lackluster Octagon debut, looking flat in a close split decision loss to Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 in July.
Meanwhile, “Toquinho” won three fights in a row before he was soundly defeated by Alan Belcher at UFC on FOX 3 in May.
The bout is an interesting one on paper, as Palhares is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt known for his devastating leg locks, while “Lightning” is a quick, powerful striker with serious grappling credentials. Lombard also boasts a BJJ black belt and is a 4th dan black belt in Judo.
This fight will be a homecoming of sorts for Lombard, who although born in Cuba, is of Australian descent.
The winner of this fight will be right back in the middleweight title picture while the loser will likely be permanently type-cast as a gatekeeper.
