UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will have a starring role in Sylvester Stallone’s “Expendables 3,” set for a tentative release date of August 14, 2014.
Stallone tweeted the news late Tuesday evening:
“Ronda Rousey will show championship form in Expendables 3! So will multi hampion (sic) Victor Ortiz!” the action star/director wrote.
Rousey signed with the William Morris Endeavor talent agency a few months ago and now already has her first movie role booked. Details are not immediately available for how extensive “Rowdy’s” part in the film will be.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jackie Chan, Dolph Lundgren, Steven Seagal, and of course Stallone himself, all star in the third film of the high-octane action series.
An Olympic bronze medalist in Judo, Rousey has gone 7-0 in her professional mixed martial arts career, defeating all of her foes via a first round armbar.
After going 3-0 inside the Strikeforce cage, the 26-year-old defeated Liz Carmouche in her UFC debut at UFC 157 in February.
She coached season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, the first season with both male and female competitors, opposite old rival Miesha Tate, who was a last-minute replacement for an injured Cat Zingano.
“Cupcake”, despite coming off a loss to Zingano, gets her second crack at Rousey at UFC 168 on December 28, set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After proving to be a game opponent early in their March 2012 encounter, Tate succumbed to Rousey's famed armbar and lost the Strikeforce bantamweight title.
The first two “Expendables” films grossed roughly $185 million at the box office, with the third installment boasting an even larger star-studded cast.
