Transgendered Fighter Fallon Fox Responds to Matt Mitrone’s Hate-Filled Rant

By now, anyone who is even moderately interested in the sport of mixed martial arts has heard about UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione’s appearance on Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour” Monday.

As previously reported by various media outlets, including eDraft, Mitrione went on a tirade against transgendered fighter Fallon Fox, calling her a “lying, sociopathic, disgusting freak,” among many other insults.

On Tuesday, Helwani, who writes for MMAFighting.com, reached out to Fox to see if she cared to respond. She did, though she took the high road in addressing what Mitrione said.

"Matt Mitrione went well beyond disagreeing with the medical experts who say I should be able to compete as a woman, and personally attacked me as a fighter, as a woman, and as a human being,” she said.

"His comments do not reflect the spirit of our sport, where most competitors uphold values like respect and dignity."

Fox, who received gender reassignment surgery in 2006, is 2-0 as a professional mixed martial artist and 3-0 as an amateur. She fought each of her MMA bouts after the surgery.

After a long dispute over her fighter’s license, Fox is scheduled to fight Allana Jones under the Championship Fighting Alliance banner on May 24.

Meanwhile, Mitrione received a contract suspension from his employer, which includes a pending investigation, shortly after they heard about his comments on “The MMA Hour.”

An official statement from the UFC said Mitrione’s rant was “offensive and wholly unacceptable,” noting the UFC is “a friend and ally” of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender community.
