UFC Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo Shoves Chad Mendes at UFC 179 Media Day

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo lost his cool at the UFC 179 media day Tuesday morning, shoving upcoming title challenger Chad Mendes during a standard pre-fight stare down.

Standing nose-to-nose in the rafters of Rio de Janeiro’s Ginasio do Maracanazinho soccer stadium, “Scarface” pushed Mendes before the media photo-op was over.

UFC 179 takes place at the aforementioned venue and is headlined by Mendes vs. Aldo II.

The pair was set to rematch at UFC 176 on August 2, but the bout was postponed – with the event ultimately being cancelled – after Aldo suffered a neck injury in training a month before the event.

Mendes and Aldo first crossed paths at UFC 142 in January 2012, with the champ delivering Mendes his only career loss after knockout him out cold with a knee to the jaw in the opening frame.

The bout had some element of controversy, as Aldo grabbed the cage to defend at least one of Mendes takedown attempts – an action that goes against the unified rules.

In the buildup to UFC 176, prior to the Brazilian’s injury, both competitors hurled heavy accusations at the other regarding performance-enhancing drug use.

For the record, neither Aldo nor Mendes has ever failed a drug test in their professional fight career.

Will Mendes be able to pull off the massive upset in front of Aldo’s home crowd or will the dominant titleholder make it 18 victories in a row against his American adversary?
