Perennial UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping showed he still has plenty of gas left in the tank by easily disposing of former Strikeforce champ Cung Le at UFC Fight Night 48 in China.
After a competitive first round, Bisping's superior boxing and conditiong quickly took over, just overwhelming Le with the sheer volume of his strikes.
By the end of the second round, both of Le's eyes had been swollen shut and he was bleeding badly.
While fight fans had to respect his tenacity and heart for still being willing to stand and trade with his American adversary, it was incredible that Le's corner didn't throw in the towel with the amount of punishment he was taking.
Finally, "The Count" decided to put Le away early in the fourth round, unloading with a barrage of unanswered punches , before dropping Le to the canvas with a knee.
After a few more subsequent strikes on the ground, the ref mercifully waved the fight off.
Bisping, 2-1 in his past three fights, made it crystal clear who he wants to fight next in a post-fight interview with color commentator Kenny Florian.
"There's an idiot called Luke Rockhold who doesn't stop talking about me. I think he has the hots for me, to be honest. Luke Rockhold, you called me out. If you want to do it, let's dance. Here I am. I'm going to beat Luke Rockhold and then I'm taking the title. Make no mistake," Bisping said.
Rockhold, another former Strikeforce middleweight titleholder, is riding back-to-back finishes of Costas Phillipou and Tim Boetsch and has been angling for a shot at UFC gold, but has traded words with Bisping on more than one occassion.
Given that UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman doesn't fight Vitor Belfort until UFC 181 on December 6, a grudge match between Bisping and Rockhold seems logical.
Meanwhile, Le is now just 3-3 in his past six fights, and at 42 years old, needs to seriously consider retirement.
