UFC Fight Night 55 Results: Luke Rockhold Steamrolls Michael Bisping

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold said he was going to do things no fighter ever did to Michael Bisping before and he certainly delivered on his word at UFC Fight Night 55 Friday night.

The American Kickboxing Academy standout had a fairly even opening frame with “The Count,” though Rockhold seems to have more power behind his shots.

Less than a minute into the second round, Bisping crumpled to the mat after Rockhold landed a switch-kick flush to the head.

Following up with subsequent punches, a TKO victory looked imminent. However, instead, Rockhold began to lock up a guillotine choke.

Bisping, a perennial contender at 185, did his best to defend, desperately trying to roll to his back, but Rockhold took mount as he held onto the guillotine with just his left hand.

A rarely execution finishing maneuver, the grip was tight and Bisping tapped, marking his first submission loss in 32 professional fights.

On the other hand, Rockhold has now scored three straight finishes over Costas Philippou, Tim Boetsch and now Bisping since suffering a disappointing knockout loss to Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 8 in May of last year.

Bisping seems to have now informally embraced the role of middleweight gatekeeper, not having a win streak to speak of since 2010 into 2011, with a paltry 3-4 record since January 2012 (losing in two title eliminator fights).

Afterwards, Rockhold called for a rematch with Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, who he defeated for the Strikeforce strap in September 2011.

Since that loss, Souza has rattled off seven straight victories inside the cage, with six of those bouts ending in either knockout or submission.
