UFC Lightweight Donald Cerrone: ‘I Spent All My Money and Now I'm Broke’

UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone considered hanging up the gloves shortly before his UFC 167 clash with Evan Dunham in November.

"What really happened is I spent all my money and now I'm broke. Now I've only got one choice and that's to fight,” Cerrone said on Majority Draw Radio.

"I got real comfortable financially, kinda let off everything. I lost my fire. I was training and going through the motions. With the last fight with Dunham, I was really considering retiring had I not been able to pull the trigger."

Cerrone is 2-2 in his past four fights, most recently earning “Submission of the Night” honors when he made Dunham tap to a triangle choke.

“Cowboy,” a former WEC champ, compiled a 4-0 record inside the Octagon between February and October of 2011, all but guaranteeing him a title shot if he defeated Nate Diaz in December of the same year.

Unfortunately for the Greg Jackson’s MMA standout, he was outboxed and just never seemed to get going against Diaz at UFC 141.

Cerrone has gone 4-2 since then, though disappointing performances against champ Anthony Pettis and top contender Rafael dos Anjos brings into question whether or not the 30-year-old could ever wear championship gold again.

The 28-fight veteran teased a drop to featherweight after the win over Dunham, but eventually chose not to shed the extra 10 pounds after all.

Cerrone looks to get a win streak going again when he competes against Adriano Martins at UFC on FOX 10 this Wednesday in a bout featured on the main card.
