UFC News: Evan Dunham Calls Out Nate Diaz on Twitter

Long-time fringe lightweight contender Evan Dunham wants to prove he can hang with the division’s best, proposing a fight to former UFC title challenger Nate Diaz on Twitter Tuesday night.

“I want the fight with @NateDiaz209 now that he is off suspension. Don't Be Scared! Let's make it happen @danawhite,” Dunham wrote.

The Throwdown Training Center product is just 3-4 in his past seven fights, though very few people agreed with his September 2010 split decision loss to Sean Sherk.

Additionally, fans and media outlets alike were downright perplexed by his decision loss to Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on FX 8 in May.

Despite the tough stretch in the past few years, Dunham still boasts a solid 14-4 overall professional record and has only been finished once in his over six-year career.

While his top notch grappling and underrated striking are enough to give any 155-pounder trouble, he would face a stiff test in the younger Diaz brother.

Diaz, a Cesar Gracie black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, scored three decisive victories between September 2011 and May 2012, earning him a title bout with reigning champ Benson Henderson at UFC on FOX 5 in December.

Diaz was soundly defeated in the title bout, getting outstruck on the feet and easily controlled on the ground.

He didn’t fair any better in his next Octagon outing, suffering the first knockout loss of his career at the hands of former Strikeforce titleholder Josh Thomson at UFC on FOX 7 in April.

Shortly after the loss, Diaz was suspended for 90 days and fined $20,000 for using a homophobic slur in one of his tweets, so a third loss in the row would certainly be enough for the UFC to cut ties with the rangy brawler.

Is Dunham vs. Diaz the next lightweight fight for UFC matchmaker Joe Silva?
