UFC News: GSP Denies He Asked $50 Million for Anderson Silva Fight

Arguably the biggest story in MMA this weekend was UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre allegedly asking the UFC for a $50 million paycheck to fight his middleweight counterpart Anderson Silva.

GSP didn’t take long to deny the report in a brief interview with 985Sports:

"I have not been informed of this, it is not true. Nobody told me about it and I am in France now, I have not seen the (Mike Straka) article. I will not comment,” he said

On Friday’s edition of the MMA Beat, Straka reported that “Rush” was asking for a very hefty payday to stand opposite “The Spider” inside the Octagon:

"I was told by somebody very close to Georges that Georges today makes close to $8 million a fight. So to fight Anderson Silva he's going to ask for $50 million.”

“Because he said that Georges has 10 fights left in his career at $8 million a fight. But he believes that Anderson could actually hurt him, could physically hurt him and end his career. So to take that chance he wants $50 million and that's exactly the number he's going to go to Dana White with."

St-Pierre has successfully defended his title seven times, compared to Silva’s 10 title defenses. Silva has won an incredible 17 fights in a row, while GSP has won 10 consecutive bouts.

The Brazilian is largely considered the only pound-for-pound fighter better than GSP, so it’s not surprising that this fight has been eagerly speculated on by fans and analysts alike since 2009.

Nevertheless, both champions still have clear contenders in their respective weight class: welterweights Johny Hendricks and Nick Diaz offer unique challenges for St-Pierre, while the same can be said about Chris Weidman or Michael Bisping for Silva.

Will this epic super-fight ever come to fruition or is GSP vs. Silva simply too good to be ever be true?
