Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold said he wanted a quick turnaround after suffering a brutal knockout at the hands of Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 8 earlier this month.
One look at Rockhold’s Twitter feed Tuesday afternoon made it clear that he had no intention of waiting for UFC matchmaking Joe Silva to pick his next opponent.
“@bisping u dont have opponent, I dont have opponent, u talk shit about "practice" i say we set the record straight once & for all @danawhite,” Rockhold wrote.
In December, “The Count” took a shot at Bisping during an appearance on MMA Uncensored Live.
"Let me put it like this, I've sparred with Luke Rockhold recently and let's just say I'm the unofficial Strikeforce champion," Bisping said on the show. "These are the facts."
As it turns out, Bisping doesn’t have any interest in the match up, mocking Rockhold for losing his UFC debut.
“@LukeRockhold @danawhite I say you go and win a fight in the UFC then we can talk,” Bisping tweeted back.
Rockhold posted a perfect 9-0 record under the Strikeforce banner, though he faced few stiff challenges outside of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
To Rockhold’s credit, the highly regarded Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt is currently ranked number 5 on the UFC’s official middleweight rankings.
Bisping is 2-2 in his past four bouts, losing title eliminator fights to Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort and earning decisions over fringe contenders Brian Stann and Alan Belcher.
Is Bisping vs. Rockhold a big money fight the fans would pay to see or is Bisping smart in turning the match up down?
