Steven Seagal, a friend of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for year’s now, had some harsh words for Georges St-Pierre on his latest appearance on “The MMA Hour.”
“If you look at GSP's worst fight, you look at the thing he did with (Jake) Shields in Canada, that was atrocious. I think that is very telling. I just didn't think the technique and the fighting skill was there in that instance.”
“I also saw him after the fight and he wasn't looking or feeling very well either, which does have some meaning. I think he got hurt in that fight and whether he dominated him or not, I just didn't think he looked good."
GSP won a very lackluster decision over Shields at UFC 129 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is worth noting that the French-Canadian was poked in the eye by Shields early in the fight, which likely affected his performance for the remainder of the contest.
The long-awaited superfight between St-Pierre and Silva remains at a standstill, with neither fighter wanting to meet the other at their own respective weight class.
UFC president Dana White personally wants to see the fight go down as soon as May of next year, but as the days go by, that seems less and less likely.
Additionally, Seagal told host Ariel Helwani that he would advise GSP not to bump up in fight Silva, though he also stated that it would be a bad idea for Silva to bump up and fight UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Should the superfight not go down anytime soon, Rush has suitable opponents at welterweight in Johny Hendricks and Nick Diaz, while Silva is yet to tangle with 185-pound contenders Chris Weidman or Michael Bisping.
Is Seagal’s assessment of GSP on point or is he simply someone spewing off a very biased opinion?
