Thiago Silva, a 12-fight UFC veteran who has been in California’s Broward County Jail since February 7 on assault charges, will finally be able to head back home – at least temporarily.
CBS Miami reported on Friday that Silva had a bond hearing and a judge reversed a magistrate’s decision under strict circumstances.
The judge did not listen to the urging of prosecutors to keep Silva in jail and decided upon a figure of $25,000. The provisions of the release require Silva to wear an ankle bracelet, attend anger management classes and abide to a 10 p.m. curfew.
The Brazilian slugger is also not allowed to use alcohol or drugs during this time.
Friends including Blackzilian gym teammate/training partner Rashad Evans, who defeated Silva in January 2010, said Silva is not a violent man outside of the cage.
“I’ve never seen him yell he’s laid back,” Evans told CBS Miami.
Last month, Silva was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and non-violently resisting an officer after allegedly threatening members of the Pablo Popovitch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center with a gun.
His ex-wife, Thaysa Silva, is currently dating Popovitch and both were said to have been threatened personally by Thiago Silva.
Further complicating the matter now is Favianna Popovitch, who believes Thaysa Silva is a homewrecker.
“She destroyed my life and my kids’ lives because she’s been sleeping with my husband for 2 years,” Favianna told CBS Miami in their latest update on the story.
Silva compiled a 7-3(2) record under the UFC banner and according to his manager, Glenn Robinson, he plans to continue fighting professionally with another promotion.
