UFC Welterweight Nick Diaz Arrested for Second DUI in 10 Months

Two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Nick Diaz’s superfight with ex-UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva at UFC 183 is in jeopardy after his second DUI arrest in 10 months.

The Lodi News, a local California publication, revealed that the Stockton bad boy was arrested on September 6 for suspicion of DUI, obstructing a police officer, destruction of evidence and driving with a suspended license.

The destruction of evidence charge reportedly came about when, once at the Lodi City Jail, Diaz asked police if he could use the bathroom – where he tried to make himself vomit.

Diaz has a slew of legal issues on his plate now, as he already had a pending DUI, DUI with an alcohol or blood level above .08 and unsafe speed for prevailing conditions back from a November 20 arrest, FOX Sports first reported Friday night.

An additional charge of failing to appear after a written promise came about after Diaz missed multiple court dates on the matter.

The UFC, via their official website, has acknowledged the arrest and essentially said they will let the legal system play out.

"We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering the facts. We understand that there is a legal process that will now take place and that Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to address the situation in the near future."

Diaz hasn’t fought since a lopsided decision loss to then-welterweight titleholder Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158 last March.

As of this writing, he still has the opportunity for a very lucrative payday against Silva, who won 17 fights in a row before losing back-to-back fights to current champ Chris Weidman last year.

Will Silva vs. Diaz still go down as planned or will the Cesar Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt’s legal troubles ruin the January 31 pay-per-view main event?
