Despite several lingering issues in the state of Nevada, Wanderlei Silva is still eyeing several big fights inside the Octagon: namely a trilogy bout with Dan Henderson.
Speaking with Brazilian media outlet Lancenet, “The Axe Murderer” explained that while he is still interested with grudge matches between Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort, he would also like to settle the score with “Hendo” (translation per Bloody Elbow).
"I want to be back soon to make the 50th fight of my career. I would like it to be in a special card. It's not news that I want to face Vitor Belfort or Chael Sonnen. But Dan Henderson is other guy that I want to fight, it's a viable possibility,” Silva said.
“We're 1-1 tied and it would be nice to have a tiebreaker of our score. In my last fight at Pride, I lost my belt to him and I couldn't have a rematch because we left. If this fight happens, I'll ask him to bring the belt so the winner can have it after the fight."
Silva’s comments are a bit puzzling, given that a formal complaint issued by the Nevada Attorney General has been filed regarding his refusal to take a random drug test prior to UFC 175, which took place on July 5.
In June, the Brazilian slugger admitted to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, through his attorney, that he took a banned diuretic to during their monthly hearing.
Henderson is currently in the midst of a once unthinkable 1-4 stretch, most recently getting decimated by top contender Daniel Cormier at UFC 173 in May.
Nevertheless, the Team Quest co-founder immediately expressed an interest in the matchup.
Meanwhile, Silva is 3-2 in his past five bouts, scoring a vintage knockout over Brian Stann at UFC on FUEL 8 in March of last year.
