With UFC Fight Night 28 Win, Glover Teixeira Gets Next Title Shot at 205

Five is the lucky number for Brazilian slugger Glover Teixeira (5-0 in the UFC) as his TKO win over Ryan Bader has earned him the next shot at the light heavyweight title.

UFC Director of International Development Marshall Zelaznik confirmed the news at the UFC Fight Night 28 post-fight press conference last night, stating that he had already had a conversation with UFC President Dana White on the matter.

After going 2-2 early in his career, Teixeira, also a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, has rattled off an incredible 20 wins in a row.

While Bader, a former Ultimate Fighter winner, entered the bout with victories in three of his past four bouts, earning “Submission of the Night” honors for a guillotine choke he executed on Vladimir Matyushenko back at UFC on FOX 6 on January.

“Darth” came out strong against Teixeira, dropping him early in the bout, but it was Bader who eventually lost the striking battle and got pummeled on the ground before the referee stepped in.

Teixeira now waits on the winner of Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 at UFC 165, which takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada on September 21.

Both fighters would likely be able to match Teixeira’s crisp technique in the striking department, but Jones would probably be the one to present a much stiffer test on the ground.

Teixeira now has the third longest win streak inside the Octagon among the UFC’s 205-pounders, behinds just Gustafsson (six) and Jones (nine).
