10 NBA Trade Candidates

Deron Williams

The Brooklyn Nets are in trouble. It is fair to say the benchmark for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference is a winning percentage of .500, even though three of the top eight teams are under that line. If they could get more than a couple games above .500, the Nets could make some noise in the playoffs. They are an absolute mess at the moment and have reportedly been shopping their star point guard as well as Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson. A blockbuster deal might be what the doctor ordered in terms of a roster shakeup and there are teams around the league that would certainly be interested in those three stars.

Joe Johnson

While Deron Williams seems to be the primary target, Johnson may simply be included in a package deal with his fellow teammate. It seems as though the duo was a failed experiment in Brooklyn and both may be out of town in the coming weeks. If the Nets could construct a massive deal that would send Williams and Johnson to separate teams, that could potentially maximize their return for the All-Stars. In an Eastern Conference that does not have one dominant team, the Nets should be very cautious when unloading their stars because it would not be too difficult to formulate a trade that would result in the Nets moving into contention at the top of the conference.

Lance Stephenson

Another guard that may be on the move, Stephenson has not impressed the Charlotte Hornets. After a fairly strong start on his new team, the fifth-year agitator has been quieted in recent games, partially due to a groin injury. Nonetheless, the Hornets have expressed interest in shopping Stephenson. Limping through the first quarter of the season, the Hornets are in desperate need of help outside of their current locker room. A package deal could bring a big to Charlotte to take the load off of Al Jefferson, but the Hornets need a scorer. A blockbuster deal with the Brooklyn Nets may be the ideal move.

Isaiah Thomas

With a three-headed monster at the guard position, the Phoenix Suns are in great shape to make a move before the trade deadline. Goran Dragic earned his keep with a breakout year last season and, after just missing out on the postseason, the Suns went out and got Isaiah Thomas to add depth to a position where it really wasn't needed. After proving to be a valuable sixth man with the Los Angeles Clippers, Eric Bledsoe is in his second season with the Suns and had a solid season in an increased starting role last year. However, with Thomas receiving increased recognition throughout the league, he may be the one to move. The Suns are lacking a post presence and, with a roster heavy at the guard position, they could formulate a satisfying trade that would enable them to move up in the standings. With multiple elite teams in the Western Conference having All-Star big men, the Suns could certainly benefit by moving one or two of their current players.

Gerald Green

A player that has shown a great ability to make plays since his victory in the 2007 Slam Dunk Contest, Green is another member of the Phoenix Suns that could be on the trade block. The Suns certainly would not shop Green on his own, but a package deal that includes the eighth-year shooting guard may be the team's best option in order to maximize their return. By adding him to a multi-player deal, the Suns would catch the eyes of several teams around the league and may even be able to steal a valuable asset from a contender.

Iman Shumpert

The New York Knicks are a laughing stock and neither Phil Jackson nor Derek Fisher have been able to do much with a roster that should not reside next to the Philadelphia 76ers in the standings. A buyer's remorse has certainly been felt about the contract of Carmelo Anthony. However, not many teams would be likely to take on that burden, so virtually the entire roster minus Melo could be gone by the trade deadline. Shumpert is probably atop the list of candidates who could actually get the Knicks something decent in return. He has struggled this season, but has shown signs of potential in prior years. On the right team, he could be developed into a solid asset, as several contenders may already be aware. With a ghastly lineup that has not been able to do much of anything, any player could be shipped out, but Shumpert is a name that would catch other teams' eye.

David Lee

The big man has been valuable for the Golden State Warriors solely because Andrew Bogut has been unable to stay healthy. Nonetheless, Lee has yet to start a game and has only seen action in three games the entire season. He, too, has battled injuries and just recently returned to action. The Warriors are surely hoping that his performance in last year's postseason will suffice for other teams to take the bait in a trade. Several aforementioned teams are in need of a solid big man and have sufficient pieces to offer to the top team in the NBA. The Warriors, having lost just four games thus far, are in no way looking for help, but could certainly acquire a bench piece while they await the return of Bogut.

Gerald Henderson

Another struggling Charlotte Hornet, Henderson was also reported to be on the trade block. Averaging just 8.4 points per game-a noticeable decrease from the previous three years-Henderson seems to have lost his touch, as well as his staring roll. A package deal here may not be the most viable option with a duo of struggling guards, but the Hornets are in need of a roster shakeup and Henderson is another player that should be on his way out.

Roy Hibbert

A horrendous postseason performance last year crippled the Indiana Pacers on their way to a Conference Finals loss to the Miami Heat. Now, after losing Lance Stephenson to free agency and Paul George to a season-ending injury, the Pacers are decimated and Hibbert has not picked up any of the slack. David West is leading the team with just 12.9 points per game and has nearly equaled Hibbert's shaky rebounding. George Hill recently returned to action for the first time this season, but will certainly not be the piece that pushes the Pacers into the playoffs. If other teams in the NBA believe that Hibbert can be groomed into a fine big man, the Pacers may be in luck and could acquire a piece that not only benefits them this season, but also compliments Paul George once he returns.

Kendrick Perkins

With Kevin Durant out again with an injury, the Thunder will be looking for an additional player to strengthen their lineup. Depth is a word that should be used cautiously with the second-best team in the Northwest Division, barely climbing back after a rough start. The Thunder have numerous players on their bench, but less than half actually make decent contributions. Kendrick Perkins falls with the majority and has received more and more heat for his declining production. The duo of Durant and Russell Westbrook may not be alive for much longer and the Thunder may already be looking for outside help. Reggie Jackson has stepped up nicely, but a package deal including Perkins could land a vital backup for the two All-Stars that would finally put the Thunder over the hump.
