The 2015-16 NBA Season is underway, and now it’s time to start the whirlwind that is the 82-game schedule spanning from October to June. With that, it’s also time to get rambunctious. Who will be the biggest surprises and disappointments this year? Which teams will turn the league on its head like the Golden State Warriors did last season?
Carmelo Anthony will be traded before January
So far, Carmelo Anthony has played well for the Knicks. However, there has always been an air around the team that indicated they might want to move on from Carmelo Anthony. He is making a ton of money and isn’t a great fit for the triangle, and though the team has indicated they aren’t interested, things change quickly in the city that never sleeps. Don’t be surprised if Anthony finds his way onto a new, better team before the New Year.
Kobe Bryant will retire before the season ends
If the first few weeks of the season have been any indication, this won’t be a smooth retirement tour for Kobe Bryant. He is playing awfully, especially by his own standards, and he has been clear that this is his last year. It is entirely possible that Kobe hangs it up before the season ends. He has been increasingly injury prone, and his level of play has declined to a level that he himself might deem unacceptable. He never ceases to surprise, and he could be saving his biggest for last.
C.J. McCollum will be an All-Star
The Portland Trail Blazers have played surprisingly well so far, and a big reason for that is because of C.J. McCollum. McCollum didn’t see much playing time last year, but with so many players gone, the minutes are his to take. McCollum is averaging 22 ppg so far. Alongside Damian Lillard, he is one of the breakout stars of the early part of this season. He will keep it up, and both of them will make this year’s all-star game.
Jason Kidd will win Coach of the Year
There are a ton of great candidates for this award, but this year it will go to Jason Kidd. Kidd has done a tremendous job in his first two seasons as a coach, and continues to develop young talent while infusing veteran leadership for the Milwaukee Bucks. As his team improves and gets key contributors back, it will be reflected in his own hardware.
Derrick Rose will be traded to the Philadelphia 76ers
It is no secret that Derrick Rose isn’t happy in Chicago anymore, and it’s also evident that the team is getting tired of him as well. Meanwhile, the 76ers haven’t had a great point guard in years, and should be willing to take a chance on Rose. At his best, Rose is a former MVP winner, and while his injury history is troubling, the 76ers could certainly envision a future around him, Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor, and Joel Embiid. This is a trade waiting to happen, and it will by the trade deadline this year.
