After each month of the NBA season we will compile our NBA All-Fantasy teams comprised of the top fantasy performers at each position along with a few honorable mentions that might break into the starting lineup next month.
We move from the Eastern Conference now over to the West where I’ll give you a starting five as well as a couple honourable mention spots that came close but ultimately fell just short of cracking the starting lineup. All rankings are based on eDraft’s fantasy stats and are based on a cumulative total for the month which is not necessarily indicative of individual fantasy point per game averages.
The Western Conference All-Fantasy squad highlighting the best of the best for February reads like a who's who of the NBA’s elite. The only real opening in the group existed at the guard spot as Chris Paul was hurt for a third of the month and of course Russell Westbrook only played a handful of games as he returned from an injury of his own.
Without further ado let’s see who cracked the starting lineup based on their fantasy contributions for the month of February.
Damian Lillard G - Portland Trailblazers
While the Blazers as a team had a horrific month of February as they struggled to stay above .500; their star guard had no such troubles. Lillard outperformed his season averages en route to posting 23.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 6.1 apg numbers. The month was highlighted by a 38 point, eleven assist outing against the Indiana Pacers. Four games into March we check in and see that Lillard is having his struggles as his shooting touch seems to have momentarily abandoned him. Here’s hoping Lillard rediscovers his touch and the Blazers can right their ship for playoff time.
Isaiah Thomas G - Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are a work in progress team; they have pieces but those pieces rarely play well enough together to garner wins. A significant piece in Sac-town is Isaiah Thomas and his performance in February in leading the team was a statement.
Thomas posted averages of 23 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 6.7 apg and 1.5 steals per game. To think that the Kings grabbed this guy late in the second round of the 2011 Draft with the 60th overall pick and have gotten away with paying him rookie-contract wages is one heck of a find.
Thomas will be in line for a huge pay raise shortly and given his play this season he might have priced himself out of Sacramento’s market...good for him!
Kevin Durant F - Oklahoma City Thunder
It should come as no surprise to see Durant here. He is having an amazing season, one worthy of an MVP award. He is consistently the top fantasy player out there and he is so by a large margin. His February averages are practically untouchable; 33.4 ppg, 7.7 rpg and 7.2 apg represent pure fantasy gold.
Blake Griffin F - Los Angeles Clippers
Wow! Griffin exploded in February as he was all-worldly. Griffin averaged 30 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 3.8 apg all the while shooting .545 from the field. As if that all wasn’t enough Griffin had eight double-doubles as well. If the early stages of March are any indication, Griffin has cooled considerably and come back to earth; however, for those who had Griffin in their lineup during February there were none better during that stretch.
Dwight Howard C - Houston Rockets
Howard was far from the best fantasy option during the month; however, he was the best performing true center out there, which in itself doesn’t say much. Thankfully almost every fantasy site has numerous power forwards who are player eligible at the center position. For those stuck taking a true center, Howard is still the best. For the month Howard averaged 22.8 ppg, 12.9 rpg, 2.0 apg and 2.5 blocks per game. Howard also registered eight double-doubles on the month.
Honourable Mentions
Kevin Love F - Minnesota Timberwolves
Love had himself a spectacular month of February, unfortunately for him so did Durant and Griffin. Love certainly did his best to keep pace though as he posted averages of 34 ppg, 14.1 rpg and 4.0 apg. ]
Now as a fantasy general manager those numbers are more than satisfactory as Love was a top-ten fantasy performer on the month. A quick peek at the first four games into March and Love is continuing the strong play. This coupled with Griffin’s tumble and Love is on his way to regaining a spot in the starting rotation.
Anthony Davis F - New Orleans Pelicans
February was pretty much like every other month for Davis as he posted a half dozen double-doubles on his way to 20.8 ppg and 9.5 rpg numbers. There is no doubt that Davis is a complete stud and throw in the fact that he has a whopping year ad a half of NBA experience and the sky's the limit here.
