For those unfamiliar with FanDuel scoring here is the magic formula to picking a winning team;
Point = 1pt, Rebound = 1.2pts, Assist = 1.5pts, Block = 2pts, Steal = 2pts, Turnover = -1pt
Alright let’s get right into it. To submit a valid roster for competition one must add nine players by using a salary cap of $60,000.
VALUE PLAYS:
Elfrid Payton Point Guard $5,600
This rookie point guard for the Orlando Magic is really showing his ability to play in the Association. While he is still searching for some consistency in his jumpshot, Payton seems to have no problem in distributing and rebounding the basketball. For a point guard he attacks the glass and seems to find himself in the right spot at the right times to get those loose balls.
Kevin Martin Shooting Guard $6,100
Martin and the Timberwolves play host to the Houston Rockets tonight and I’m betting Martin will want to show that he still has game left in him to his former team. Martin is coming off a bad night against Miami as he finished with only 8 points on the night; however, before that outing Martin had three consecutive exceptional outings. For the price here, Martin is a good play at home against the Rockets as Ricky Rubio is out and the offense will need to come from somewhere.
Solomon Hill Small Forward $5,100
Right now Hill is representing great value due to his low buy price, it’s not so much that Hill is setting the world on fire but he is far outperforming his value here. The fact that he is the starting small forward for the Pacers who gets between 11 and 19 shots a night and who rebounds with a 5 rpg average. Hill seems to hit his FPPG averages consistently with the occasional game that sees his really go off. This game tonight against Miami will require Hill to really be aggressive and I expect his shot attempts tonight to be at the high end.
Anthony Davis Center $11,200
There is no better value in FanDuel right now than Davis. Yes, Davis is the most expensive option out there but the price tag is backed up with stats. Not only is Davis a beast against the best teams in the league; see his 63.8 fantasy point night against LeBron James and the Cavaliers on Monday night. Tonight the Pelicans play host to the Los Angeles Lakers and Davis will be looking to get a victory against Kobe Bryant for certain. There is simply no one on the Lakers that can matchup against Davis here, Jordan Hill is good but he has no chance of slowing Davis here.
BAD PLAYS:
Jeff Teague Point Guard $7,400
Teague has been all over the map so far this season in terms of fantasy production. He has two games with single digit points, two games with zero rebounds and only one game with double digit assists. Aside from one really spectacular game this season Teague has been very average so far. For this price one really needs to get consistency FPPG results and Teague just isn’t giving that yet.
Joe Johnson Shooting Guard $6,400
Johnson has struggled this season as he continues to find his way within the Brooklyn Nets offence. Johnson is averaging 31.8 FPPG; however, take away his one good game of 52.6 FPPG and his true average is better represented at 27.6 FPPG or 4 points lower. That point differential really should lower his price tag by at least $800; which can make a big difference when it comes to balancing a salary cap versus point production.
Thaddeus Young Power Forward $7,100
Young is in tough tonight as Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets roll into Minnesota. As tough as this matchup is for Young it is compounded by the fact that he is really more of a small forward type player yet FanDuel has him down as a power forward. Three of the last four games have seen Young underproduce against his season FPPG average and he had two terrible games against Chicago and Orlando during that time.
Marcin Gortat Center $6,900
Gortat has not been his usual productive self over the last four games. In fact he has under produced in three of the last four when compared to his season average of 28.3 FPPG. I see that trend continuing tonight as the Detroit Pistons come to town. Gortat will have to play against Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe as the game progresses and neither one of those matchups are favourable for Gortat. Price here is too high as guys like Roy Hibbert, Robin Lopez and Jordan Hill all come in cheaper than Gortat tonight.
Here is my FanDuel fantasy roster for November 12th, 2014. This roster is averaging 264.4 FPPG heading into the action and there are many players here who are really outperforming their season averages.
