In an NBA season of strange headlines, the Boston Celtics added another element to a whirlwind of a 2017-'18 NBA season. On Friday, the team announced shooting guard Marcus Smart will miss the next two weeks due to a right laceration on his right hand. Smart suffered the injury after he swiped his hand on a picture frame and sliced it open, the injury also caused him to miss Wednesday's game.
Smart, 23, is a significant part of Boston's rotation and his absence will be felt. In addition to the loss of his defensive abilities, Smart also averaged 30-plus minutes per game this season and contributed 10.1 points, 4.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Whenever Kyrie Irving or another guard missed time, Smart stepped into the lineup as a starter and always filled in nicely.
In Smart's absence, Terry Rozier and Shane Larkin will step into larger roles. This season, Larkin averages around 11 minutes per game and the numbers over that time aren't particularly impressive with a 39.1 field goal percentage and 3.5 points per game.
Rozier will be the biggest beneficiary during Smart's absence. He already averages over 22 minutes per game and averages 9.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, two assists and one steal per game. He'll be a DFS target when the matchups are right and is worth an add in deep leagues for a two-week span.
