Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap decided on Monday to officially opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer.
Set to make $21.4 million in 2017-18, this isn't necessarily a big surprise. Millsap will be the best power forward on the free-agent market and will demand a multi-year deal at north of $30 million annually.
The four-time All-Star averaged a personal best 18.1 points to go with 7.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for Atlanta this past season. That enabled him to finish as the fourth-best fantasy power forward in basketball.
There's no telling one way or another wether Millsap will end up re-signing with Atlanta, but it can offer him more money than any other team. Millsap's ultimate destination will have wide-ranging ramifications on his fantasy relevance next season.
Should the veteran go to a better team in hopes of contention, he's sure to see a downtick in production. That happened this past regular season when former teammate Al Horford signed with the Boston Celtics. One could also conclude that Kevin Durant saw a downtick in production moving from OKC to Golden State.
This is definitely one of the top stories around the fantasy basketball world with free agency set to beging wtihin the matter of weeks.
