The Utah Jazz and center Rudy Gobert are reportedly close on a four-year extension that would pay him $102 million over four years. Gobert, was set to become a restricted free agent following the 2016-17 season. The young big man is averaging 11 points and 12 rebounds in three games thus far this season.
He's also coming off a 2015-16 campaign that saw him average 9.1 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting 56 percent from the field.
This extension enables the Jazz to keep a strong front court together moving forward. It also gives Gobert' fantasy owners hope that his continued improvement within Utah's offensive scheme will benefit his fantasy production moving forward.
After all, Gobert has seen every single one of his major statistical categories improve in each of his three seasons in the NBA. And despite only being early in the 2016-17 campaign, Gobert looks ready to build off last year's strong performance.
He is already a top-10 fantasy center in the NBA, and could very easily reach the top-five mark at some point in the not-so-distant future. The unknown of playing for a different team might have impacted this.
