As the Golden State Warriors wait for the MRI results on Kevin Durant's injured left knee, the team isn't wasting any time adding some depth for good measure.
Various reports indicate that the two-time defending Western Conference champions will sign Matt Barnes for the remainder of the season.
Barnes was waived by the Sacramento Kings last month after the trade that sent DeMarcus Cousins to New Orleans. The veteran, who played for Golden State from 06-08, was averaging 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Kings prior to being waived.
This is a clear indication that the Warriors expect Durant to be out for some time. Depending on the outcome of the MRI, that could mean the duration of the season. If so, the need is there for both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to step up from a scoring standpoint.
This is huge NBA news heading into the final quarter of the season. It's also potentially huge fantasy basketball news. Durant is averaging 25.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting at a 54 percent clip from the field. He's the top fantasy small forward in the game right now.
