Fantasy Slant: Kyle Lowry Opts Out of Contract with Raptors

Toronto Raptors All-Star guard Kyle Lowry has officially decided to opt out of the final year of his contract and will become a free agent this upcoming summer.

Lowry, 31, is coming off a career-best 2016-17 performance that saw him average 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.0 assists while shooting 41 percent from three-point range. This enabled him to finish as one of the top-five fantasy point guards.

There's no telling whether Lowry will return to the Raptors. Opting out will likely guarantee him more $10 million-plus more than he would have made if he had decided against utilizing said option.

From a fantasy perspective, there's not a whole lot to look at here quite yet. We have to see how the market plays out for Lowry and where he lands before drawing an ultimate conclusion. If Lowry were to move on from Toronto, that would likely impact the already heavy usage of fellow All-Star DeMar DeRozan
