A sprained MCL suffered in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Toronto Raptors over the weekend will keep Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside out for the all-important Game 4 matchup Monday in Miami.
It has to be considered a major blow to a Heat team that pretty much finds itself in a must-win situatino down 2-1 in the series:
Whiteside averaged 14.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and a league-leading 3.8 blocks during the regular season. While all of his numbers have decreased in the playoffs, the 26-year-old center was shooting at nearly 70 percent from the field prior to the injury.
With Whiteside out, both Udonis Haslem and Amar'e Stoudemire should see more action. Though, there's a decent chance Miami will go with a small-ball lineup at times, inserting Josh McRoberts in as the center against a big Raptors team that doesn't necessarily like to get up and down the court.
None of these three players are necessarily relevant from a DFS standpoint. Instead, look for more scoring from Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade in the backcourt come Monday evening.
As we have seen with Stephen Curry in Golden State, there's a decent chance Whiteside will be sidelined for a couple weeks. Of course, that only matters should Miami advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
